The Nanaimo NightOwls have signed the son of a big leaguer as they continue to develop the next generation of ball players.

The city’s West Coast League baseball team announced in a press release this month that they have signed Tugg Hollandsworth, son of Todd Hollandsworth, who was an outfielder with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies and six other MLB clubs in the 1990s and 2000s.

Tugg, an outfielder who bats and throws left like his father, joins the NightOwls from Illinois State University. He will be joined in Nanaimo by teammate Lawson Minshew, a hard-throwing right-handed relief pitcher.

The NightOwls announced four other signings this month, including shortstop Nevan Noonan from San Diego State and catcher Kurt Felix from Cal Poly, as well as left-handed pitcher Landon Welter and catcher Ayden Hadley.

The WCL season starts in early June. For tickets and more information, visit http://nanaimonightowls.com.
