Nanaimo RCMP are looking for two shoplifters who allegedly used a baby stroller to steal hundreds of dollars worth of food.

According to a press release, two suspects used the stroller to steal nearly $300 worth of produce from the Real Canadian Superstore on Metral Drive in Nanaimo.

Store security told police the suspects were seen selecting various items from around the store and placing them in the stroller next to a small child. However, as the suspects went through self checkout, none of the hidden items placed in the stroller were paid for.

When confronted outside the store by security, the suspects allegedly refused to co-operate and left the premises with the items.

The incident happened last month, at about 2 p.m. on July 16, but RCMP more recently received images of the suspects.

The press release described one suspect as a woman between 30-35 years old with long blonde hair, wearing a dark-coloured dress; the other suspect was also described as a woman between 30-35 years old, with red hair, a tattoo on her right elbow, wearing black shorts and pushing a baby stroller.

In anyone has information about the identity of the suspects, they are asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, referencing file No. 2023-24262.
