A group of youth performers is touring Western Canada in an immersive, happiness-generating and theatrically charged musical experience.

The Youth Singers of Calgary, comprised of 50 members, will dance and sing their way across Nanaimo’s Port Theatre stage on Saturday, May 21, starting at 7:30 p.m.

The show, called ‘Best Day Ever,’ is about exploring the things that make us smile, noted a release for the performance.

“It’s going to be a really fun and uplifting and energetic show,” said Alida Lowe, director of program, production and touring for the youth group. “We’re really just celebrating with music all that makes us happy.”

Lowe said the performance at the Port Theatre is a modification of a larger production that was shown in Calgary at the Jubilee Auditorium on May 13.

“We’re taking a version of it on the road next week to celebrate everyone coming together and coming through the pandemic,” she said, and added the tour will consist of a slightly smaller group with a few different songs than the original performance.

As the youth group normally does a ‘big show’ every spring, this year’s tour will be the first since 2019 due to COVID-19 related restrictions.

“It just seemed so appropriate to celebrate that through the joy of sharing music with each other and with our audience,” said Lowe.

Tickets for the show can be purchased online at www.porttheatre.com.
