As part of the season finale, the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra will wow audiences with string music by a variety of composers – from Baroque to 20th century.
According to a release, the concert will begin with Pietro Locatelli’s Concerto Grosso, followed by Robert Volkmann’s Serenade No.2 in F major. The first half will end with harpist Joseph Clemotte, winner of the NCO’s Concerto Competition for Young Musicians, playing Handel’s Organ Concerto Op. 4.
The program will continue with Dvorak’s Bagatelles Op. 47, No. 1, and Gustav Holst’s A Moorside Suite – a song typically played by a wind symphony or concert band but arranged for strings for the concert.
The orchestra’s ‘Spring Strings’ will be held on Saturday, June 10, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Nanaimo, and again on Sunday, June 11, at the Gabriola Community Hall on Gabriola Island.
Both Nanaimo and Gabriola Island shows begin at 2:30 p.m.
