Next week, a Lantzville singer will embark on his first tour and showcase his musical chops across central Vancouver Island.

Raymond Salgado, last season’s Canada’s Got Talent finalist, will accompany Matt Dusk during part of the crooner’s Western Canada tour.

According to a press release, Dusk will honour the late Tony Bennett with a two-fold tribute – the Best is Yet to Come: Dusk Sings Bennett tour, and the release of his new album, The Book of Bennett. Vancouver Island stops include performances in Sidney on April 20, Nanaimo on April 22, Campbell River on April 23, Courtenay on April 24 and Duncan on April 25. Salgado will join Dusk on stage from April 22-25.

The Lantzville singer, who performed with Nanaimo’s Aviva Chorus on Sunday, April 14, and headlined his first concert, the Power of Love, in February, said he was honoured when asked to join the crooner’s tour – especially since he has yet to sing in many of the communities they’ll be performing.

“I’ve always had an appreciation for all types of music since music is something I really resonate with … I feel like our music abilities are very different but I feel that will make the best show possible,” Salgado said, adding that he’s excited for the prospect of singing a duet together.

For his leg of the tour, he plans to sing the jazz standard My Funny Valentine and an original song called From Afar, all while matching “Dusk’s vibe but still bringing a bit of [himself] to the table.”

Tickets for the Nanaimo show at the Port Theatre can be purchased online at www.porttheatre.com.
