Volleyball players rallying

Nanaimo’s high school volleyball teams played above the net at the Vancouver Island University Invitational tournament on the weekend.

Nanaimo’s high school volleyball teams played above the net at the Vancouver Island University Invitational tournament on the weekend.

The 40-team senior girls’ tourney attracted entries from all over the Island and the mainland.

Surrey’s Pacific Academy won the tournament. The top local side was the Dover Bay Dolphins, who placed sixth. The Cedar Spartans finished in 11th place, the Wellington Wildcats finished 13th, the Nanaimo District Islanders placed 17th, the Barsby Blazers were 25th and the Woodlands Eagles came 29th.

The next local action is Oct. 14-15, when the Spartans host a 16-team tournament.
