VIU’s volleyball teams are playing winning volleyball with one week to go in the PacWest season.

Vancouver Island University’s men’s and women’s v-ball teams hosted the Capilano Blues on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10, in Pacific Western Athletic Association action at the VIU gym.

The Mariners men were able to snap a slide with two solid wins against the Blues, 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 21-25, 25-18) in the first match and then 3-0 (25-21,25-17, 25-22) in the rematch. VIU’s men (12-6) are heading to provincials regardless, but “would rather head in on a winning streak,” noted a press release.

As for the Mariners women (16-2), they had already clinched first place in the PacWest ahead of the weekend’s action, but didn’t let up, sweeping the Blues in straight sets both days by scores of 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-22) and then 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-19).

GAME ON … The Mariners volleyball teams play their final home games of 2023-24 on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17, when the Columbia Bible College Bearcats visit the VIU gym. Friday’s matches are 6 p.m. for the women and 8 p.m. for the men, while Saturday’s action will start at 1 p.m. for the women and 3 p.m. for the men.
