VIU volleyball loses last sets

Vancouver Island University’s women’s volleyball team couldn’t put the finishing touches on an undefeated season. The Mariners (13-1) lost their last match of the regular season on Saturday in Kelowna against the UBC-Okanagan Heat, 25-17, 21-25, 25-15, 25-17.

“We didn’t come out at all. We just had sporadic moments of what we normally play like and a whole pile of fear and panic,” said Shane Hyde, Mariners coach.

The Mariner men (8-6) also ended off with a loss to the Heat, 25-19, 26-24, 25-19.

“UBC-O did play a really good match,” said Rob Barcelos, co-coach of the Mariner men. “A couple things killed our momentum, like serves here and there. They're the No. 1 team in the country and we had to play our best game to beat them and we just didn't play our best game."
