The VIU Mariners made it close against a higher-tiered opponent on the weekend.
Vancouver Island University’s women’s basketball team lost 62-60 to the Trinity Western University Spartans on Friday at the Dover Bay Secondary School gym.
The Mariners play in the PacWest, while the Spartans are a CIS squad.
The M’s were led by Avery Snider’s 15 points, while Sienna Pollard and Chanece Curtis scored 14 each.
The next day, VIU’s women lost 66-54 to the George Fox Bruins of the NCAA’s Div. 3. Snider scored 26 and Pollard had 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The regular season starts Oct. 29.
