VIU Mariners golf takes bronze

The VIU Mariners men’s golf team finished third overall for the PacWest season and qualified for nationals.

Vancouver Island University’s athletics department earned its first provincial medal of 2016-17.

The VIU Mariners men’s golf team hosted the final Pacific Western Athletic Association tournament of the season at Morningstar Golf Course in Parksville. The M’s finished fourth as a team at the tourney, but their scores were good enough to earn them third overall for the season.

Dallas Jones finished ninth at the tournament, fourth overall in the PacWest individual golf standings and was selected as a PacWest all-star.

On the strength of their bronze-medal finish, the Mariners men earn a berth in the Ping Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championships later this month. Holland College will host nationals at Fox Meadow Golf Club in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
