Teams that intend to win during the football season need to win on signing day, too.

The V.I. Raiders are anticipating good things on Thursday (June 1), the first day that players can officially sign their intent to play for certain teams in the Canadian Junior Football League.

The Raiders believe they’ll get almost all the recruits they’ve targeted.

“We’ve offered to 25 guys and we’ve got 24 – and the 25th guy has decided not to play football anymore…” said Glenn Cook, Raiders general manager. “So we got everybody we wanted, pretty much. We’re pretty excited. It’s going to be a good year.”

He said there will be high-level players added on both sides of the ball. With so many returning players, it’s making for a pretty full Raiders roster.

“We’d like to go into main camp with no more than 70, 75, but we can’t get it down below 85, which is a good problem to have,” Cook said.

The Raiders will hold a signing day party Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Steve Marshall Ford Lincoln auto dealership on Shenton Road.
