Nanaimo’s winning ways in lacrosse this summer extend to minor lacrosse, too.

Two Nanaimo District Lacrosse Association squads won provincial championships this month on the Lower Mainland.

The U16 A2 boys won the B.C. Lacrosse Association championship July 10 in Port Coquitlam, where Nanaimo defeated Vancouver 11-1 in the final. Tanner Harrison was named tournament MVP and a tournament all-star and Dylan Bennett won the Fair Play Award.

A week later, Nanaimo’s bantam B girls won the provincial title, squeaking past Ridge Meadows 2-1 in a defensive showdown in Coquitlam on July 17. Rylee Wing was chosen tournament MVP and a tournament all-star and Irelyn Wear won the Fair Play Award.

The B.C. championship banner completed a collection for the bantam B girls, who had previously won their league title and an Island championship.

Also competing at female lacrosse provincials in Coquitlam were Nanaimo’s peewee girls and junior women. For the peewees, Sarah Hunter England was selected a tournament all-star and Olivia McKenzie won the Fair Play Award; for the juniors, Avery Henderson was an all-star and Alyssa MacDonald won the Fair Play Award.
