Top athletes go to Winter Games

Three top young athletes have the honour of representing their province at the Canada Winter Games this month.

Synchronized swimmer Meghan Dougan and artistic gymnast Kerensa Mitchell, both of Nanaimo, and target shooter Francisca Bradley of Nanoose Bay will participate in the Games in Halifax that get underway Friday (Feb. 11). Christina Sharun, a hockey coach from Nanaimo, is also part of Team B.C.

“It’s thrilling to know that we are sending off the next generation of Olympic, Paralympic and Special Olympic athletes,” said Stephanie Cadieux, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, in a press release. “It’s a testament to the efforts of athletes, coaches and sport practitioners – everyone involved in coming this far.”
