The senior A Nanaimo Timbermen, winners of four straight, have a chance at their most significant win in a long time.
After results on the Western Lacrosse Association’s out-of-town scoreboard last night, the T-men are in a position to clinch a playoff spot on their home floor Sunday, July 22. The T-men host the Coquitlam Adanacs in a 6 p.m. start at Frank Crane Arena.
“That’s what we want, we want to control our future,” said Kaleb Toth, T-men coach. “We’ve got a good young team here; we’ve got to keep working hard and keep doing those little things and playing with intelligence and if we can do that, we have a chance at going a long way.”
The Burnaby Lakers lost 13-12 to the New Westminster Salmonbellies on Thursday at Queen’s Park Arena in New West. The Lakers are the only team that could edge out the T-men in the playoff race, but the Lakers would have to win all three of their remaining games and the T-men would have to lose all three of theirs.
Burnaby hosts the Langley Thunder tonight, July 20, so a Thunder win in that one would put the Timbermen in the post-season.
The T-men have only qualified for the WLA playoffs once in franchise history, back in 2007.
