The Nanaimo Adult Recreational Slo-Pitch League is looking to fill up the softball diamonds as a new season is nearly here.

The league has two more registration days this week, April 12 and then draft day April 14, and then the season starts April 19.

The league is for men 50 and up and women 45 and up and league president Michael Hunt said he’s hoping for enough players for four teams this year. There have been as many as six teams in the past, but there were just three last year as COVID-19 had some players hesitant.

Now, Hunt said, there seems to be good enthusiasm to get back to playing ball. The league is experimenting with a few rule changes to try to speed up game play a little, but the goal is still to have everyone participating and having fun.

The season goes until the end of September and games are Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the McGirr Sports Fields. Registration is 9:30-10 a.m. April 12 and April 14 at the McGirr softball diamonds. For more information, call 250-755-7052 or 250-756-0801.
