The Nanaimo Clippers focused their energy better on Saturday and came out with a point.
The Clips lost 4-3 in overtime on the road against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
Clippers coach Bill Bestwick thought his team may have tried too hard in its home opener Friday against Surrey, but learned from the experience.
“We paid attention to detail,” he said. “Staying out of the penalty box was key. We played smarter.”
Andrew Gladiuk scored the game-tying goal on the power play with four minutes left to help his team gain the point. Graeme McCormack’s point shot created a rebound that Gladiuk was able to convert.
Gladiuk and Mike Puddifant scored second-period goals for the Clippers.
Charles-Andre Pelletier took the loss in goal, making 33 saves as his team was outshot 37-29.
GAME ON … Nanaimo’s next game is Friday (Sept. 24) when the Clippers host the Westside Warriors at 7:10 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena.
