Race is on at high school track and field championships

The B.C. High School Track and Field Championships get underway today (May 29) in Langley. Several Nanaimo youths are medal threats.

Nanaimo high school track and field athletes have momentum heading into provincials after posting top results at the Vancouver Island Track and Field Championships earlier this month.

Grade 8 girls – Julia Metrowich, Dover Bay, third, 100m, third, 200m; Sofia Robinson, Dover, third, 800m, third, 1,500m; Morgan Burke, Dover, second, high jump; Marina Andersen, Nanaimo District, first, pole vault; Hope Stewart, Cedar, first, 800m, second, 1,500m.

Junior girls – Hassy Bombata, Wellington, third, 100m, third, 200m, first, high jump; Alyssa Mousseau, Wellington, second, 800m; Amy Morris, Wellington, second, 1,500m, second, 3,000; Jessica Katzberg, Cedar, third, hammer throw; Madison Heisterman, Queen Margaret’s, first, 800m, first, 1,500m.
