Eight Nanaimo ball players are bound to turn some heads at a showcase tournament in Peoria, Ariz., this week.

Griffin Andreychuk, Justin Clarkson, Ben Dunbar, Brendan McCarthy, Colby Morgan, Alex Rogers, Brady Rogers and Luke Skingle are travelling today (Oct. 11) and begin tournament action tomorrow.

The Pirates have been practising and getting games in for a few weeks now.

"Hopefully they've done enough prior to, to be confident and be up to the skill level that everybody else will be," said Pirates manager Doug Rogers, who is managing the B.C. team.

He said U.S. scouts are certainly familiar with the B.C. Premier Baseball League.

“They know the kind of players the league has produced,” he said. “They know when a B.C. team comes down, there’s going to be some prospects on it.”

After the Arizona tourney, the Rogers family, Dunbar and Skingle will head to Fort Myers, Fla. for another showcase tournament.
