Nanaimo Timbermen win one as season gets underway

Senior A T-men lose 15-6 to Salmonbellies, then win 15-10 versus Adanacs

The Nanaimo Timbermen gave up a lot of goals and lost, then scored a lot of goals and won as another WLA lacrosse season got underway.

The senior A T-men started the campaign with a 15-6 setback against the New Westminster Salmonbellies on the road Thursday, May 25, but bounced back with a convincing 15-10 win against the Coquitlam Adanacs on Saturday, May 26, also on the road.

In the season opener, Zach Manns scored two goals to go with two assists and Taggart Clark also scored a pair. Justin Geddie made 35 saves as his team was outshot 50-40.

Two nights later, Manns scored five goals and added three assists to pace Nanaimo’s offence and Clark had two goals and four assists. Kyle Playsted had a goal and four helpers and Evan Messenger scored twice. Geddie made 30 saves for the win as shots were 53-40 in favour of the T-men.

GAME ON … The senior A Timbermen play their home opener this Saturday, June 3, against the defending WLA champion Langley Thunder at 5 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena. The T-men then have a road game Sunday, June 4, against the Maple Ridge Burrards.
