Nanaimo teen runner-up at one of junior golf’s majors

Shirin Anjarwalla finished second at the CN Future Links Prairie Championship June 10-12 at Neepawa, Man.

A Nanaimo golfer was runner-up at a major tournament last week.

Shirin Anjarwalla finished second at the CN Future Links Prairie Championship June 10-12 at Neepawa, Man.

The 16-year-old had led the tournament after the first and second rounds, but her five-over 77 in the third round wasn’t enough as Camryn Roadley of Winnipeg shot a two-over 74 to win the tourney by two strokes.

“My playing partners Shirin and Julie [Ju] played really well, too, so it was nice to have someone pushing me the entire way,” said Roadley in a press release.

Anjarwalla, as one of the event’s top-six finishers, receives a berth to Golf Canada’s junior girls’ championship in Shubenacadie, N.S., Aug. 2-5.

Other Future Links majors will be held in Medicine Hat, Alta. and Fairview, P.E.I. in July.
