Nanaimo’s Gil Stuart races his 1958 Volvo. He competes this weekend (Aug. 20-21) at the British Columbia Historic Motor Races in Mission.

A Nanaimo driver is headed to the track for some good, old-fashioned competition.

Gil Stuart will race his 1958 Volvo PV444 at the 29th running of the British Columbia Historic Motor Races this weekend (Aug. 20-21) in Mission.

The event, held at Mission Raceway Park, is the biggest vintage race in Western Canada, according to a press release.

The racing attracts motorists from Western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

The Vintage Racing Club of British Columbia, hosts of the event, are expecting around 100 vintage and historic racing cars and several thousand spectators.

Stuart will also be participating in a Ride in a Real Racing Car fundraiser, where spectators will get a chance to ride shotgun.
