Lantzville officials will celebrate a brand new mountain bike park with a ribbon cutting ceremony on the weekend.

The District of Lantzville has announced that it will be holding a grand opening ceremony for a newly constructed mountain bike park at Rotary Park.

The ceremony will take place at 7803 Harby Rd. East., on Saturday, June 23, at 10 a.m. There will be refreshments and cake available to those in attendance.

Saturday’s ceremony comes more than two years after Lantzville councillors approved the construction of the 2,000-square-metre bike circuit for a cost of $32,000, after years of planning. Councillors had originally expected the park to open that year, but unfavourbale weather conditions and repeated delays by Hoots Inc., resulted in construction beginning last November. Construction was completed last month and the park is currently open to the public.

Frank Limshue, the district’s community planner, said Coun. Dot Neary as well as members from the district’s parks and recreation committee will be in attendance on Saturday. He said it’s great that the mountain bike park is finally completed.

“Everybody is happy,” he said.
