It’s been a tough start for the Timbermen, but they think they have a chance to start turning things around.
Nanaimo’s Junior A Lacrosse League club (0-3) plays the Port Coquitlam Saints (0-2) on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena.
“PoCo’s a team that we know we can beat; we’ve just got to play hard,” said Andrew Miller, Timbermen transition player.
The T-men are emphasizing team defence this week at practice after allowing 15 or more goals in all their games so far.
“Defence first is going to win you games and I’m trying to get that in the heads of our offensive players,” said Ken Morrison, the team’s coach. “If we turn over the ball we want to be pressuring, but we’re getting a lot of our guys running off and letting [opponents] have a free clear.”
Miller said the team understands the problem and it’s something that can be tightened up. It means more running, he said, and playing smart lacrosse.
“We’re making, not stupid decisions, but the wrong decisions,” he said.
The T-men can continue to work on those things, and at the same time, start winning games, they think.
“It’s going to take a full team effort to win,” Morrison said. “We’ve got a lot of things to work on, still.”
