Harbour City derby team gets rolling

The Harbour City Rollers roller derby team holds its season opener this Saturday (May 17) in Parksville.

The Harbour City Rollers roller derby team is hosting a derby doubleheader.

The Nanaimo team holds its season opener this Saturday (May 17) in Parksville, taking on the Undead Heart Throbs from the Fraser Valley. The second game that night will see the Vancouver Island All-Stars take on the Thompson Okanagan All-Star Team.

“The team’s looking pretty good,” said Karly (Suckerpunch) Sue, coach of the Rollers. “We’re getting a lot stronger. We have a lot of new players.”

The games go at Oceanside Place. Tickets are $10 or $5 for kids and will be available at the door. There will be a beer garden set up. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the first bout begins around 5:30 p.m.

“We want to come out with a bang this year and have everyone remember roller derby,” Sue said. “It’s a great way to spend a Saturday night.”
