The Nanaimo DBL Timbermen capped off a perfect weekend with a win against a previously undefeated team.

The city’s senior B lacrosse team (5-3) beat the Valley Rebels (7-1) 8-5 Sunday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

“The guys think we have a good team but we hadn’t beaten anybody that was in the upper echelon and today we did it,” said Roger Dubyna, coach of the DBL squad.

“Offensively we’re getting better but I think the key was Danny [Walters] in goal played very well, our transition game was very good and is going to get better, and we did a real good job of killing our penalties.”

Walters made 45 saves. Myles Jeffers scored two goals to lead a balanced attack. Ryan Dietterle, Josh Van Wieren, Ryan Clark, Jaron Dubyna, Shawn Swanson and Riley Kemp also scored.

The day before, Nanaimo beat Chilliwack 8-6 on the road. Shane Chalker had a hat trick, Clark scored twice and Jordan Jarvis, Jeffers and Jaron Dubyna had the other goals. Mike Berti was the winning goalie, making 29 saves in a relief appearance.

GAME ON … Nanaimo plays Royal City (5-2) Sunday (June 19) in New Westminster.
