The Fairview Cowboys saved their best football for the post-season and won a championship.
The local junior bantam team won the Vancouver Island Co-operative Football League final on Saturday at Merle Logan Field, defeating the Oceanside Titans 34-13. It was the first championship for the Cowboys team, an affiliate of the Nanaimo District Secondary School Islanders program.
The Cowboys finished fourth in regular season play, but beat the Harewood Dawgs in double overtime earlier this month to get to the championship game.
Coaching the Cowboys this year were Steve Koehler, Eric Mattes and Alex Mattes.
