Members of the Ron’s Landscaping team played like they’d all had a double shot of espresso, and they won the Coffee League championship.

A perennial powerhouse in Nanaimo’s weekday-morning women’s softball circuit, Ron’s team defeated the Wheatsheaf Pub squad in the A final of the championship tournament Tuesday afternoon at the McGirr Sports Fields.

Winners of the B final were the Islandnet ladies, who defeated Baker Supply.

Ron’s Landscaping reached the final by getting past the Ladysmith team 13-11. Meanwhile, Wheatsheaf edged Communication Connection 10-9 in the other semifinal.

Both Ron’s Landscaping and Islandnet were presented with trophies for their efforts at a season wind-up at Piper’s Pub following Tuesday’s action.

Islandnet’s Rita Giroday received the Doreen Buyden Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship and Denise Churchill of the Harewood Arms team was the recipient of the Love of the Game award in memory of Marie Berry. Harewood Arms and Ladysmith shared the Most Sportsmanlike Team award for this season.
