The Nanaimo Buccaneers were able to get back in the win column.

The city's Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League team defeated the Kerry Park Islanders 4-3 on Saturday at Mill Bay to stop a four-game losing streak.

The Bucs had to survive a barrage of shots to win, as goalie Cedric LeSieur earned his first win with a 40-save, first-star performance. Dawson Heathcote, Jayden Schubert, Chad Bell and Clayton Peace scored in the win.

Two days earlier, the Bucs were doubled up 6-3 by the Comox Valley Glacier Kings at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. Peace, Jacob Carr and Bell scored, but although the Buccaneers outshot the visitors 36-29, they couldn't come back from an early deficit. John Hawthorne suffered the loss in goal.

GAME ON … The Buccaneers play a rematch against the Islanders on Thursday (Sept. 29) at 7:15 p.m. at the NIC. The Bucs then face the Glacier Kings on Saturday up Island.
