Sports groups should share education costs

Why are some groups exempt from paying fees? Specifically, sports teams.

To the Editor,

For many years, Brownies, Scouts, Guides and many other worthwhile organizations have had to (and continue to) pay to use school district facilities; we now have a second sports group having its fees waived. The Nanaimo Minor Baseball Association pays nothing for the use of the Serauxmen Stadium and field.

In a time when these trustees are saving money by having a two-week spring break at the expense, as always, of non-teaching staff, and handing over thousands of dollars in those savings to the Nanaimo and District Teachers’ Association, why are some groups exempt from paying fees? Specifically, sports teams.

It boggles my mind to see what seems to be a board governing at the whim of the union.

Guides paying for sports teams. Everyone else paying for the comfort and conveniences to Cedar that no-one else gets.
