Snail mail too slow for modern times

I personally think birthday cards should arrive either before or on the day itself, not a week after the fact.

To the Editor,

On March 28, I sent a birthday card to my sister in Ireland; her birthday was on April 7, so I figured 10 days would be plenty of time for it to arrive on time. I personally think birthday cards should arrive either before or on the day itself, not a week after the fact.

I received an e-mail from her April 11, informing me she had just received the card. That’s two weeks exactly to get from Nanaimo to Dublin – ridiculous in this day and age. I mean, it’s not as if these two places are out of the way and need extra time to be accessed.
