Politicians shouldn’t have the right to sell off Nanaimo’s parkland

Parks are not for sale and we will need more parks as our city is growing.

To the Editor,

Re: Georgia Park lease deserves referendum, Opinion, Sept. 16.

Nanaimo has a lot of parks, all unique in their own way, some large and small, but all owned by the citizens of Nanaimo, bought and paid for by city taxes in most cases.

Taxpayers see politicians wanting to take our rights away without our say. This seems to happen every so often – take part of Bowen Park for road widening, or Linley Valley park and so on. This is wrong no matter how much money a company wants to give. Once it is gone it is gone forever, no matter what is promised.

Parks are not for sale and we will need more parks as our city is growing.
