Litter fails to justify reasons for dog mess

Re: Dog feces can’t compare to litter woes, Letters, June 16.

To the Editor,

Re: Dog feces can’t compare to litter woes, Letters, June 16.

Shirley Lee’s letter about litter being worse than dog waste is an excellent example of the ‘red herring’ fallacy.

That people use backroads for illegal dumping is awful, but it doesn’t cancel out or justify someone watching their dog drop a deuce on a public sidewalk and just walking away.

I’m also not impressed by the “it’s natural, it’ll go away on its own” attitude of some dog owners. I bet they’re pretty quick to pick up the waste their dog leaves in the backyard, so why the hypocritical shift in thinking when the space is public?
