To the editor,

Re: Diamond ring accidentally given away gets returned, Dec. 21.

Chris Bush and the Nanaimo News Bulletin should be commended for accurate and objective reporting on the missing diamond ring. While nothing is publicly known about who did what to the two diamonds that had been pried off of the ring, that fact was important to the story. Only the News Bulletin reported it. Other media didn’t, a glaring omission. Wire service referred to the missing gems only as “some damage to the ring.” That whopping euphemism was repeated by maybe a dozen or more other media that picked up the wire story.

The ring’s owner shows no bounds to her gratitude and generosity. Still, the media owe us objective, factual reporting.
