Re: Adam Walker resigns as Qualicum Beach councillor to focus on new job as MLA, Nov. 20.
When our newly minted MLA, Adam Walker, opportunistically chose to change career paths and become a provincial politician, he in effect broke an unwritten contract. When he asked the people to have him represent us, as a Qualicum Beach councillor, we supported his bid and expected he would represent our town for the full four-year term.
The town is now facing substantial expense to hold a byelection caused by his resignation, a cost that we should not have to bear. In the interim another councillor has taken several months’ leave, further exacerbating the situation.
I have no doubt Walker will be a good representative at the provincial level but feel strongly, given his new-found income, that he or the provincial government, having accepted his nomination, should compensate the town for all expenses incurred replacing him.
