To the editor,

Re: City adopts this year’s tax rates, May 19.

As if people are not suffering enough with COVID, rising prices and pressures of the last year, now the new property tax bills are out with increases of about 40 per cent. Our taxes went from $1,855 in 2020 to over $2,600 this year. Who can afford that type of increase?

It will sure be a boon to the city’s revenues while causing huge suffering to already overburdened citizens.

Doug McEvay, Nanaimo
