Re: No easy answers regarding ICBC mess, Opinion, Aug. 31.
I don’t know if my observation applies to the entire province, but as far as Nanaimo is concerned, I think there is an easy answer: why don’t we instruct the police to enforce the driving rules like they used to?
When I set out in my car I see infractions everywhere. With no enforcement, there is no compliance. When did you last see a driver pulled over for failing to stop as required at a stop sign? What about using turn signals? Speeding? Line weaving? Tailgating?
Since ICBC has a handle on all traffic accidents throughout the province, they are in the best position to analyze the situation and assemble statisticts that would guide each police department in on the causes of motor accidents and where enforcement seems to be lacking. Why don’t they provide such a report quarterly?
Wait until the new traffic circles start to be used.
