Re: Teachers understand education issues, Letters, Aug. 19.
I find myself deeply resenting the whole mess called the teachers’ strike. It seems to me obvious that the government is deliberately trying to starve the teachers out and create an atmosphere of dissension and mistrust. Then, they can legislate the B.C. Teachers’ Federation back to work and no one will argue about it.
As the guardian of a special-needs child, I have seen first-hand the results of this government’s mismanagement of the educational system. The teachers and the educational assistants I know give 200 per cent, but if they do not get more help in the classroom, the future will be bleak indeed. The welfare rolls and the prison system will be full of the education casualties who did not the help they needed to succeed.
I am sick to death of the teachers being painted as greedy and self-serving. They have taken a stand for our children and their future. We must stand with them or it was all for nothing.
I implore the parents out there to make their voices heard. Tell Christy Clark and her government what they can do with their $40 bribe.
