Fines won’t stop Harbourfront walkway offenders

NANAIMO: Re: Walkway bylaw needs enforcing, Letters, Aug. 28.

To the Editor,

Re: Walkway bylaw needs enforcing, Letters, Aug. 28.

As a daily walker on our beautiful downtown waterfront, I read with interest John Scorgies letter to the editor that proper signage be displayed and fines for cycling be issued.

Don’t hold your breath Mr. Scorgies.

As one who has been whacked in the knee by a goon on a bike and who has witnessed an elderly lady toppled over, I have brought this to the attention of the parks department, port authority and RCMP on numerous occasions to no avail.

Due to lack of proper signage, some tourists I have talked to were not even aware there’s no cycling.

Slap on a few fines?

Probably not.

Today’s city council seems to thrive on the old adage of ‘don’t rock the boat’.
