To the Editor,
I watched a TV show about Newfoundland. There is a place called Fogo Island. About 200 people live there. They travel to Newfoundland by ferry.
During Newfoundland’s long, frozen months, the ferry can’t get through the ice. So the federal government-owned icebreaker runs in front of the ferry all winter making passage for these 200 people and three round trips a day.
This is all for free for the residents of Fogo Island. No toll.
Now, if the voters of B.C. got rid of B.C. Ferries – that says it’s a private corporation, not employees of the taxpayers of B.C. – we could have a free federal ferry system.
