Ferries a floating highway

Why aren’t the ferries operated and paid for by the federal government rather than B.C.?

Canada has the Trans Canada Highway that goes from the Maritimes to Vancouver, where it stops then appears again on Vancouver Island. The skipped portion is handled by ferries. It is a federal highway, federal responsibility. Why aren’t the ferries to Victoria and Nanaimo operated and paid for by the federal government rather than B.C.?

Hello Justin Trudeau, this is some of your infrastructure that could help to grow the middle class. Allocate the millions the railway is begging for and put it toward something that would actually benefit Vancouver Island.
