Colliery Dam Park a first for many

NANAIMO – Re: Council unmoved on dam destruction despite impassioned speakers, June 13.

To the Editor,

Re: Council unmoved on dam destruction despite impassioned speakers, June 13.

I respectively ask mayor and council for more consideration on the removal of the dams at Colliery Dam Park.

I would imagine it a place of many firsts  – first kiss, first loves, first walks hand-in-hand – and because of it’s serene beauty, possibly chosen by many Nanaimo residents as the ‘unspoken’ place they wish to be for all eternity as ashes blowing in the wind.

So please, before workers start piping out water and destroying this beautiful park, this may be something  to reconsider. Once done this can never be changed.

Is council going to remove every potential hazard in our city – remove the homes hanging over the cliffs of the Nanaimo Parkway,  drain all the lakes homes are built over and pick our beautiful city apart little by little?

They must take the time to find a solution that keeps the residents safe and won’t destroy a beautiful part of Nanaimo.
