Cities need to look after arts

One can be respectful that other taxpayers have different opinions, but not to agree to be silenced by them.

To the Editor,

Re: Nanaimo’s own taxpayers know best, Letters, Jan. 2.

Having a mailing address which falls outside the city limits does not preclude a person from owning properties and businesses in Nanaimo, as well as shopping and seeking services there, and therefore contributing to the local tax pool. Moreover, it can not prevent her or him from caring about the city future. One can be respectful that other taxpayers have different opinions, but not to agree to be silenced by them.

Canadian laws provide each level of administration with the frame of responsibilities and obligations; municipalities, between others duties, ought to look after local arts and culture.
