Two thumbs up to Shoppers Drug Mart for installing bike racks in front of the store at their new Mary Ellen Drive location. It was only a short while after cyclists made this request that it was fulfilled. At a time of growing awareness about how petroleum dependence leads us to trade with despots, it’s a wise business that seeks customers who are “self-propelled” people.

A deliciously fragrant bouquet of bright yellow daffodils to the hundreds of caring and loving people living here on fantasy island. We truly have an abundance of blessings in our lives – living here is just one of them. My heart and prayers go to the more unfortunate people in places like Japan and Haiti. As far as beefs go, I really cannot think of any. When I put things in perspective, I’m so grateful and beefs have no place in my thoughts.

Huge Thank yous for the amazing help I received from people when my vehicle broke down recently – the young man who lent me his cellphone, the prompt service of BCAA and Mid Island Towing, a friend’s willingness to pick me up despite a busy day, and the young lady at a Budget rental car location who stayed open so I could get a rental.
A Huge Bouquet to all the people at Neck Point Park who helped and supported me when my boxer Tessa had her heart attack recently. It was all very traumatic but she is doing better now. You are all angels and I am deeply grateful.

We discovered that I put a small dent in his front bumper and broke his licence plate holder. He was not only very gracious and understanding, but he also said not to worry about the damage. The food was excellent, too – a big thumbs up to this restaurant.

I am looking for work and hear the same story from many who are over 40 and have been passed over time and time again for interviews even though their skills suggest they could do the job with their eyes closed. Maybe we are approaching this all wrong by getting frustrated – the answer is in your feet and your wallet. For every business who passes you over, strike that store off your shopping list.

A beef to the lady who yelled into our store demanding that her son use our washroom. When told that we didn’t have one, you rudely snapped back, “Since when?” We have never had one and have to use the public washrooms ourselves.

The illegal dumping that goes on in and around this city is out of control and when I see someone doing what you were doing, it’s my business. City of Nanaimo and Regional District of Nanaimo – please do something.

a beef to the man who took the only disabled parking space available at the Parksville bottle return depot recently. I am sure your teenage son was impressed that his young, fit dad would not walk the 20 extra feet to park where the rest of us do. The disabled sign on your rearview mirror must belong to someone who actually deserves it, certainly not to you.
A beef to the health professional I met with recently. There is no need to be rude, judgmental and dismissive to me and then overly kind to the next patient. I may have piercings and coloured hair, but that does not give you the right to treat me so unfairly.
