Beef of the Week: To the fitness centre. I had to shut my bank account down to stop your over-billing. The bank said they had seen this from four customers just this month and that the fitness centre makes up a different story every time. They are really live up to the stereotype of a shady gym.

BOUQUET To Danielle at the Terminal Park Hub Insurance. There was an error message with my insurance cancellation, and she went above and beyond to help me deal with ICBC, explaining everything along the way.

BEEF To not-for-profits using their money for illegal luxury personal gains. Bouquet to not-for-profits using their monetary gains investing in furthering employee training and benefits and/or necessary innovations, as is meant to be.

BOUQUET To my kind, thoughtful, caring, loving, compassionate, empathetic, wonderful boyfriend for being my rock during the most difficult time of my life. Thank you for being a genuinely kind human being and giving me hope in humanity.

BEEF To a coffee shop. You need to clean the inside better and the windows, plus get your washroom fixed.

BOUQUET To Chuck, our park manager, who was out night and day clearing away snow for us all. Such a hard worker with a kind heart. Many thanks.

BEEF Shame on those developers that clear-cut trees when developing properties. They clearly see only the dollar signs, not the mass destruction of green space nor the loss of wildlife habitat nor the impact on climate change. It’s happening everywhere you go and there needs to be more accountability and stricter measures in place to protect our precious trees.

BOUQUET To the church allowing the daytime warming centre at the church hall. While it may be unsettling to see those living on the margins hanging around the church and the streets surrounding it, if a church can’t be a place of sanctuary and welcome, what can? Let’s get to know these new neighbours, they are someone’s father, uncle, aunt, sister or brother.

BEEF To the city for not offering aquafit this spring. Sixteen classes a week for seniors and disabled people gone. Reason given is staffing issues. It sounds like management issues to me.

BOUQUET To Willow and staff at Iron Oxide Art Supplies. This happy customer applauds your friendly and helpful customer service. Your selection of all things art related is the best there is on Vancouver Island.

BEEF To the beefer trying to justify the Freedom Convoy and flying the flag upside-down. We are not a nation in distress. Your comment is irrelevant. There are no more restrictions and the convoy is over.

BOUQUET To Arrowsmith Bikes. Thanks to Duncan for the spring cleaning tune-up on my bike. Outstanding service.

BEEF To all the loud-mouths who complain non-stop because they have to listen to authority figures and laws, you’re no more Canadian than the rest of us. We are beginning to grow tired of your noise.

BOUQUET To everyone who attended my dad’s celebration of life at the Nanaimo Golf Club. Our family is so grateful for the outpouring of love, support and wonderful stories. Thank you.

BEEF Why is it that immigrants coming to Canada from countries where there is racism complain of racism here?

BOUQUET To Haley and staff at the Nanaimo Golf Club who provided fantastic service during our recent celebration of life. Amazingly professional, considerate and efficient – and excellent communication with us on the day while we were overwhelmed. I cannot stress enough how the event and service exceeded our expectations.

BEEF To those who intentionally fly the Canadian flag upside-down. Drop the crazy conspiracy theories. It’s offensive not just to your fellow citizens but to those who must live in those few places where civil society has actually broken down. Your ignorance is the real risk to this country.

BOUQUET A huge thank you to the young man who paid for our dinner at Nori Sushi restaurant while celebrating the 70th birthday of my friend. His kindness was over the top and will be long remembered.

BEEF To the lady visiting the vet clinic and encouraging her little dog to harass two young puppies in the waiting area who were clearly scared and trying to hide. You continued to insist your dog bother them even though they were reacting with quite intense fear and their owners told you they were afraid and too young to engage.

BOUQUET To the bylaws enforcement officer who booted someone camping on the grounds of the former Malaspina Gardens on Machleary Street, but a beef to the city for making the officer work alone.

BEEF To the nursing staff and cleaning staff in the emergency room. After five days of my husband not being able to get out of bed I finally got him to go the ER. He was not able to sit and asked if there was somewhere he could lay down and was told nothing was available. My husband wound up laying on the dirty floor waiting four hours to see a doctor, and not one person checked to see if he was OK. It turned out he had had a small stroke. Where is the compassion? A shortage of staff does not explain the lack of care he received.

BOUQUET To the staff at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, from the emergency room ambassadors, nurses, to the surgical team of Dr. Laughren for the quality care they provided. All staff were attentive, mindful of each patient, understanding and empathetic. All were professional and courteous even on a very busy evening. The doctor gave my husband a call after my surgery to let him know all was well. Thank you to all staff.

BEEF To the tree service for having its employees park their personal vehicles in our neighbourhood and taking all our parking spots.

BOUQUET To the staff at Highview Optical who fixed my husband’s glasses for free even though they had to order parts from Vancouver. They were so patient and helpful and we really received outstanding service.

BEEF To the constant ‘Chicken Little’ gang speaking of a housing crisis. There are tons of affordable homes for rent or purchase and unlimited jobs in Alberta. Not everyone is entitled to live in B.C.

BEEF To the new acclaimed fabulous five. Stop wasting city funds on reports for tent cities. Not one has worked anywhere. You can’t have vulnerable seniors and women being preyed upon with the mental illness we have and the predatory behaviours of some of the street-entrenched. You will put them more at risk than anything. Just stop.

BEEF To the disrespectful sports fan who can’t be bothered removing their hats for the singing of O Canada.

BEEF To those who object to allowing Canada’s citizenship loyalty oaths to be sworn online. As long as Canada allows people to hold multiple citizenships simultaneously, our loyalty oath is meaningless no matter how it’s sworn.

BEEF Better pay attention. Make sure you have cash on hand. If the system has a run, the banks will shut it down. You have been warned. Get this out far and wide. This is a planned operation, sorry to say. Hope I am wrong but does not look good.

BEEF So sad there are no doctors taking new patients in Nanaimo and area. Sad to tie up emergencies for an ear infection because there aren’t enough walk-in clinics.

BEEF To theatres for failing to show Academy Award winner ‘Women Talking.’

BEEF To the driver who yelled and honked at me while I was quickly crossing the road in the crosswalk with my small dog. The anger was shocking and bizarre.

BEEF The RCMP say vigilantism is not justified. My wife’s $2,000 bicycle, chained to our second-floor balcony, was stolen. The RCMP were contacted, as was the landlord. The landlord went through CCTV footage, put the relevant footage on Facebook, and the suspect was identified. This information was provided to the police. The investigation went nowhere.

BEEF To the fitness centre. I had to shut my bank account down to stop your over-billing. The bank said they had seen this from four customers just this month and that the fitness centre makes up a different story every time. They are really living up to the stereotype of a shady gym.

BEEF To the employer who treats some of their employees poorly, this is likely going to come back to haunt you at some point, if not already.

BEEF to water and sewer rate increases. Look at your bills closely everyone. This bill included one month of increases. Just wait until the next bill. This will add hundreds to our yearly cost.

BEEF With all the transportation money going to Victoria to build overpasses, etc., why is no money or planning going ahead to add overpasses on the Nanaimo Parkway?

BEEF I tried and tried to use and accept Metal Drive with its recent changes. No luck, this is still a massive misuse of public funds to create a road hazard and not an improvement.

BEEF Twenty-five per cent of people In Nanaimo are 65 or older. Why would the rec department at the city shut down aquafit for seniors? Not fair, not right. Ageism. Surely they could give us the usual 45 minutes four times a week.

BEEF To the woman who was playing fetch at the off-leash park with her dog. You were upset about another dog joining your dog. What exactly do you expect? That’s what dogs do. Then when the gentleman’s pup didn’t want to drop the ball, you lectured him saying his dog should do what he says? Clearly you aren’t familiar with normal dog behaviour.

BEEF to the Nanaimo parks and rec department for cancelling aquafit. The weakest citizens, seniors and disabled, will no longer be able to exercise. Society fail on behalf of management and council.

BEEF To the woman who has treated my friend so horribly for no reason. You have such an ugly heart and a nasty soul, it makes you such an unattractive person, no one is going to want to be your friend, never mind your spouse.

BEEF To the company that takes yard waste. My son in law took a half ton truck, and filled it with brush, old wood and some rock from their garden; he was charged $100. He is not a company, just a contractor. That is a ridiculous fee.

BEEF There is a misconception that data centres will attract an innovation hub, but it has been shown that they neither attract any other technology industry nor do they create any meaningful employment. They are simply warehouses requiring tremendous amounts of water and energy 24/7.
