Beef to car manufacturers for limited choices in car colours it would seem. Most cars on the road these days seem to be white, black, silver, grey or beige. Monochrome monotony.

BOUQUET To Nanaimo taxpayers for paying for on-demand free campsites on Nanaimo’s most beautiful waterfront property as well as for free garbage pickup, free toilets, free water and a handy shopping centre that has everything a local person or visitor could want.

BEEF To the residents of Discontent City. You’re not really homeless. You live in a tent, so go camping on approved campsites. Otherwise, you have illegally taken over city-owned property. Let’s call you what you are: squatters.

BOUQUET To the bakers at Save-On-Foods at Brooks Landing. You make the best-ever bread and cookies in Nanaimo.

BEEF To the motorist delayed by a construction flag person. Swearing at her is not going to get you to your destination any quicker.

BOUQUET To Leonard Krog for being willing to run for mayor. Nanaimo needs you, oh, how we need you.

BEEF To the homeowner on Railway Avenue that has old boxes filled with junk on the sidewalk. These have been there for weeks and are a real eyesore.

BOUQUET I want to thank the man who found my purse at HomeSense. I’m glad to see there still are honest people.

BEEF To the man with an off-leash German shepherd in Linley Valley. Your dog came charging at us in an aggressive manner and all you could say was that it was our fault for showing fear. Seriously?

BOUQUET Many thanks to the Ladysmith Secondary School students and staff who came to the aid of my husband when he collapsed at the commencement ceremony. Also many thanks to the B.C. Ambulance Service attendants and the doctor and nurses at NRGH. Thank you Brian for getting my car home.

BEEF To the bikers who use the sidewalks on Hammond Bay Road instead of the empty bike lanes.

BOUQUET To Shia R. for his insight into the psychology, literary merit and hilarity of Nanaimo Beefs and Bouquets.

BEEF To owners of barking dogs. Consideration for others is a dying virtue. Also throwing your pet’s waste in the trees. Nice.

BOUQUET to several people who pick up garbage around Westwood Lake trail on a regular basis. If only the city would install more benches around the trail so you could rest, while doing their work for them, free of charge.

BEEF To car manufacturers for limited choices in car colours it would seem. Most cars on the road these days seem to be white, black, silver, grey or beige. Monochrome monotony.

BOUQUET To the person or people who removed the grey and white rug from the shoreline along Nanaimo’s seawall and placed it in the trash.

BEEF To the young couple with three medium-size dogs we observed removing the new begonia plants from our downtown corner office.

BOUQUET To Anu and Tammy of Real Canadian Superstore eyeglasses department. I needed new prescription sunglasses and they arrived earlier than expected and are perfect. The service both on ordering and receiving was awesome. Thank you ladies.
