E-mails are for losers, says beefer.

BOUQUET Thanks to the little boy (and his family) for sharing his toys with my son on a ferry ride back to Nanaimo over the holidays. You made the trip more fun and your giving nature was inspiring.

BEEF With today’s serious concerns regarding safety, how can Nanaimo have an aging fuel storage depot situated in the middle of a residential area, together with a fuel discharge dock supplying that installation adjacent to pleasure craft marinas?

BOUQUET To the Nanaimo city works who worked through Friday night to stop the water main leak on Ross Road. Our basement was full of water and they were on it. Thank you; we don’t know what we would have done if you didn’t look into the problem so fast and fix it that night.

BEEF To the RDN for not running buses on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. Some of us rely on this service. I decided not to get a ride with an impaired driver on New Year’s Day and had to walk home for over an hour.

BOUQUET To my fantastic neighbours on Seventh Street who came to the rescue when my car was rear-ended by a motorcyclist. They made sure we were both OK, swept up the debris and re-directed the traffic. You are the best.

BEEF To some parents who drive their kids to Dover Bay. The crosswalk on McGirr is not your personal drop-off zone. Pull to the right or go into the parking lot like everyone else. You’re backing up traffic, making it worse than it already is.

BOUQUET To the 911 operator, Engine 3 fire guys, Rick and Dave and John and Natasha, Nanaimo/Ladysmith EMS crews. Everyone was so compassionate and friendly. Even at 1:30 a.m. in the pouring rain, everyone made sure I was calm and OK. Great first responders in Nanaimo. Thank you all.

BEEF To the person blaming postal workers because he/she received only one card by post and the rest were e-mail. The post office just delivers what they get – they don’t write and address the cards. Most people are sending e-mail now because stamps are too expensive. Blame the sender not the messenger.

Beefs & Bouquets continue below

BOUQUET To the driver of the dark SUV on Lost Lake Road who was alert enough to notice my young puppy before she darted across the street. Less vigilant drivers probably wouldn’t have seen her. Thank you.

BEEF To the people dressed in black on dark, foggy days, jaywalking, hoodies on and can’t see sideways.

BOUQUET Thank you to Alex from EB Games and Justine and Justice from Kal-Tire for their kindness and generosity. Three cheers for three special young adults who helped me on a cold and rainy day.

BEEF To people breaking into cars in Yellow Point. Thanks to the game cam photos your lives are about to change forever.

BOUQUET To all the hydro workers and all support staff who worked their hearts out to repair and replace the hydro lines on Vancouver Island and outer islands during and after the worst wind damage to the grid. You guys and gals are the true heroes that live among us. Thanks also to the crews that came to help from other provinces. Many thanks.

BEEF To the people in the north end who let off fireworks on New Year’s. It takes my little dogs more than a week to recover.

BOUQUET To Christine and staff at Triple T Party Rentals. Thank you so much for helping us with our celebration of life. You and your staff made things run smoothly in a time of chaos.

BEEF To the self-righteous people who like to step on a man when he’s down, break his windows, locks, etc., then run like cowards. Who’s the bad guy now? When you point a finger at someone, three are pointed at you.

BOUQUET To my husband Dave who goes above and beyond every single day. Thank you for being there for nearly 35 years. Have I told you lately that I love you?

BEEF To the company that employs alcoholics who drink beer on the job sites. This is unprofessional and unsafe, not just for injuries, but also DUI. You make us tradespeople look bad.

BOUQUET The Nanaimo British Club would like to thank Rutherford Hair for donating a prize for the Christmas show.

BEEF To the beefer who expects an MP, MLA or councillor to respond to your e-mails. If you want a real response, then please take the time to write a real letter. E-mails are for losers.

BOUQUET To all Milano’s staff. On New Year’s Eve, with a full house, 14 of us had a great time. The service and the food were great. Big thank you.

BEEF To the landlord of the gym who refuses to fix the laminate floors in the aerobics room, the leak in the roof or to maintain a cleaning schedule of the equipment.

BOUQUET To Shaw installer Terry for his pleasant and knowledgeable service when upgrading our modem.

BEEF To sugar and highly processed foods. You are the culprits of so many of our most devastating illnesses. Let’s all start 2019 on a healthy note, eating less than 25 grams of sugar a day, eating more whole unprocessed foods and have vegetables and fruits make up most of our plates.

BOUQUET To Jack and his team at JLO Electrical Services. Thank you so much for your outstanding work. I am now ready for the next power outage.

BEEF Not everyone got into Christmas spirit. I was short 10 cents in a supermarket but nobody offered to help. I had to use my bank card to pay the dime.

BOUQUET We would like to thank the Bulletin for putting the nativity scene on the Dec. 25 first page.

BEEF To the City of Nanaimo for only putting Christmas lights on half of Commercial Street. We all pay taxes and business licences.

BOUQUET Thanks to all those who thought to tip their newspaper carriers. Whether cash, gift cards or chocolate, it is truly appreciated. OK, maybe not the chocolates so much as I am trying to lose weight.
