Pogson, William John “Bill”

July 9, 1944 – August 11, 2016

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bill Pogson in Calgary, AB on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the age of 72. Bill was born in Toronto and spent the majority of his life on Vancouver Island. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. As a hobby, he was passionately involved and supportive in the sport of Field Trial. Bill had a very illustrious thirty year career in Corrections. He won numerous awards over his career, including The Corrections Exemplary Service Award, The Premier’s Award for Excellence from the Government of the North West Territories, and the Governor General Award of Canada. Bill was instrumental in implementing a wide variety of initiatives in the field of corrections including the introduction of female correctional officers and various youth programs. Bill was tremendously respected by all who worked with him. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be remembered by all for his colourful character and his warm sense of humour.

Bill will be forever loved and remembered by his wife Deb; sons Richard and Chris (Traci); grandchildren Sidney, Wyatt and Adam; sister Sue (Bob); as well as extended family members.
