In loving memory ~
Bill with his family at his side peacefully passed away on October 20th, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Marie, son Kim, daughter in law Dawn, grandchildren Liam, Cameron and Lauren of Nanaimo, sister Jane Millikin of Kelowna, God son Andrew Panton of Nanaimo, and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents Agnes and Cyril King of Kamloops.
Bill was born in Vancouver and grew up in Kamloops. He attended St. Anne's Academy and after graduating attended Notre Dame Catholic University in Nelson, BC where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Philosophy. He furthered his education at the University of Alberta in Economics which lead to his career in Business and Finance. He was an owner/partner in Retail Electronics and Manufacturing Automotive Accessories. Most of his career was in Banking/Trust Management and as a stock broker. Bill was a Manager and Vice president at Midland Walwyn Securities and Island Representative for the Investment Dealers Association.
After spending 17 years in Edmonton he had desire to return to BC. Bill loved Nanaimo and living by the sea and he became very involved in his community. He was a Mason (past master of Ashler Lodge) and Shriner. He was a founding member of the Port Theater and Dragon Boat Society. Bill served as a city councillor for 8 years and was a Nanaimo director on the Regional District Board. He was a board member of Vancouver Island University as well as their Foundation Board. He is a past member and president of the downtown Rotary Club, Probus, and Nanaimo Coffee Club. His other interests included an adventure in cooking group, sailing with friends, swimming, reading, and judo.
Above all, Bill's primary focus and devotion was to his family with so many treasured events and numerous vacations together. Bill was a gentleman of principle and integrity. He was a lifelong learner enjoying conversations with a diversity of people. His comfortable, warm presence was easily engaging. As a remarkable husband, father and "papa" will always be remembered and cherished. His quiet, calming nature with patience and understanding will be missed and will continue to influence our lives.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the many involved in Bill's care, Dr. John Trepass, Dr. Kenneth Mann, Dr. Francis Chan, and Dr. Geoff Palmer. Thank you to Nanaimo Seniors Village and Nanaimo Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the extraordinary care given to Bill.
A visitation at sands funeral chapel has taken place prior to cremation. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
