September 20, 1925 - July 9, 2018
Vera passed peacefully at Dufferin Place at the age of 92 years, with family at her side.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Peter, her parents Ross & Phyllis McGregor, mother-in-law Olive Laughron, brothers Jim (Eva), Gordon (Mollie), sister-in-law Elsie Pottelberg, and son-in-law Eric Rowe.

She will be missed by her daughter Marilyn Rowe, son Tony Biamonte (Linda), 'daughter at heart' Denise Meyers (Michael), grandchildren Nick Rowe (Brook), Crystal Petryshen (Lyle Brochu), Shelley Biamonte, Sara Dvorak (Jason), Shawna Biamonte, Bradley Wall, and 'adopted at heart' grand-children Michael & Kristina Frederici, as well as their parents Mike & Brenda Frederici.

Vera was born at home on the family farm close to Boisevain, Manitoba, where she grew up and went to school at Mountainside. Her family packed up in 1942 & moved to Nanaimo to a chicken farm on Rutherford Road which her father had purchased sight unseen!

In 1945 she met the love of her life, Peter, who also had a farm in the Wellington area. After a lengthy courtship, they finally married in 1950. Daughter Marilyn was born the following year and son Tony in 1954. The family moved to Departure Bay in 1957, to the home where Vera would continue to live for 61 years. Her beloved Peter passed away in 1982; she never stopped missing him.

She was an avid reader, gardener, and loved all the birds and wildlife that she welcomed to her yard. She was so good to the neighborhood pets that we used to tease her that she'd one day be sued for 'alienation of affection'!  Vera had a wonderful sense of humor which served her well all her life.

Unfailingly compassionate toward those less fortunate, she contributed to several charities, her favorite being Operation Eyesight Universal, which she supported for over 30 years!

The family wish to thank the wonderful Home Support workers who made it possible for Mom to remain at home until 2 months prior to her passing.  Special thanks to Berni, Noelle, Ila, Laura and Jenny. To the staff at Dufferin Place, especially Cedar wing, you have our deep respect and gratitude for the work you do; thank you for your loving care and providing mom with 'joy in the moment' during her final days.

A Memorial Service for Vera will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 11:00 am at Departure Bay Baptist Church, 3510 Departure Bay Road.
