Thomas (Tom) Paterson Hamilton

January 1, 1934 –

September 27, 2015

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Paterson Hamilton of Nanaimo, B.C. on September 27th, 2015 after a lengthy illness.

Tom was the first baby born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland on New Years Day In 1934. As a young man he put in two years in Singapore with the RAF where he often got into trouble with a little good hearted rebellion. He had many fond memories of his time there. Tom had just gotten back from Singapore when he met Anne at one of the local dance halls. Tom & Anne loved to dance and were always complimented on how beautifully they danced together. Tom and Anne were married in Anne’s home town of Troon in 1960 and continued to live in Kilmarnock where he & Anne raised their family until they moved to Nanaimo in 1967. For many years many knew Tom as the Greens Keeper at the Nanaimo Golf Club. Later he moved on to become a Financial Planner with The Prudential of England Life Insurance Co. until he took early retirement in 1990. Tom loved people and was always fun loving & out going. Many may remember Tom as a mobile bartender for weddings & company parties that he did as a side business as well as for his long time family connections to the Masonic Lodge & Jobs Daughters.

Tom had a clever mind & a natural ability to fix things and if anyone ever needed anything, he would always go out of his way to help. He could always be counted on & his family could not be more proud.

Words can not express our gratitude to the many that have reached out to help and the many kind words of encouragement & understanding during these difficult times. A very special thank-you to all the caring professionals at Wexford Creek that helped to make Tom’s last days as comfortable as possible.

Tom was predeceased by his parents Margaret (nee Craig) & Thomas Hamilton & his sister Chirstina Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anne; Sister Betty (Wesley) Brolls; Brother Craig (Jacqui) Hamilton; Daughter Julie (Bill) McKay; Son Scott Hamilton; Grand Daughters Sarah Garner, Scotia McKay; Grand Son Quinton McKay.

In Lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held from 1pm – 4 pm on October 25th, 2015 at his Daughter’s house at 3174 Singleton Rd, Nanaimo, B.C.
